Clare & Alastair’s Wedding: Sheffield

August 15, 2010

This weekend I travelled up to Sheffield for a beautiful Church wedding. Al and Clare, along with their family, are the kindest and warmest welcoming people who I’ve ever had the privilege to shoot. From the moment that I arrived for bridal prep, I felt at ease.

The house was calm and organised; No frantic running around nor hectic hustle and bustle. I was able to take all the detail shots (shoes, jewellery, dress, flowers) while Clare chilled out in her PJ’s reading the newspaper. Her sister, Fiona, provided us with a suitable soundtrack; Her piano piece to be played during the signing of the register.

I’m not sure the boys were quite so organised – they couldn’t even get their personalised cufflinks the correct way round! Luckily my 2nd photographer was on hand to point this out while their group photos were being taken.

We are always required to be more than just a photographer!! 🙂

Typically they were at the pub on time but at the church later than planned! I am told this wasn’t their fault. I have my suspicions 🙂

Thankfully the bride was also traditionally late and happy to wait in the car for a while out of the rain! I still got wet –  determined to get all the pre-ceremony church shots!

The day was simply beautiful. The church (St John’s Church) and bridesmaids were equally stunning and elegant. (I want one of those dresses when you girls are done with them!) The reception venue (Woodthorpe Hall) was so pretty and the marquee took my breath away when I first saw it. 🙂

Despite the heavens opening in the morning, Al and Clare were lucky with their weather. It remained dry from the start of their ceremony onwards. This, to me, is a good omen. Not that there is any doubt about this couple. They are clearly made for each other. Love oozes from them (not as sickening as it sounds!) and I have to admit that I cried during Al’s speech when he simply and honestly told everyone how he felt about Clare and what she meant to him (even just writing this, I am welling up again!). There wasn’t a dry eye in the house, despite all the Rescue Remedy Clare had taken during the day (on my recommendation)!

Despite the wet, slightly muddy field Clare was determined to get this shot. I am so pleased. Many brides worry about their shoes and dresses but Clare appreciated that you only get this day once. If you want the photos that you envisaged then you have to be brave and just go for it, despite the weather!

Thanks for a wonderful day, Guys. We were welcomed and looked after from start to finish. I am sure that you enjoyed your fantastic day but it sure flew by quickly, hey?!

You will be able to see the rest of Alastair and Clare’s photographs within the next few weeks, so please keep an eye out on our web galleries.

Yes great day and a privilege to photograph this wedding. Claire & Al are lovely people. I too thought that Al’s speech was special. It is not easy for guys to say what they really feel in front of an audience that includes their mates. Takes courage and high degree of confidence. Fiona’s rendition of I Giornio was beautiful. Loved it so much I have purchased it today, but played by the composer. It’s not quite the same as hearing it in the church though. — Rob
